2 challenges of electric cars are (1) the battery itself and (2) charging the battery. A company called Better Place developed innovative ideas to solve these issues, in particular charging systems (charging spots) and battery exchange systems (battery switch stations) for instant range extensions. They promise that the battery exchange is quicker than filling a tank of gasoline.

If you have 1/2 charge left does that mean you pay 1/2 price for the exchange?? Or would it work on a fixed price scheme

Good point. Takin this into account as well as the fact that batteries for cars are still quite expensive a different approach could help. Car manufacturers, battery makers and charging systems must cooperate in order ot sell "mobility" or kW/h. This routes to the blog on “Innovation - What is the future”
ReplyDeleteYesterday we had the chance to test an electric car: the Mitsubishi i-MiEV. Diving is very convenient and really fun because the acceleration is quite strong. My wife was very convinced, however the price of this little car was 35000 EUR. No way at the moment...
